ACTION 3.5

To measure and showcase the economic value of unpaid care work and adopt measures to steer us towards joint responsibility from a standpoint of gender equity

There is genuine unawareness with regard to the scope and significance of unpaid work relating to care for people. A thorough, systematic analysis must be carried out on the economic value of this unpaid care work, which is largely performed by women, in relation to the opportunity cost (lost work), the contribution to GDP and the hours of work (use of time surveys). In 2017, the Observatory for the Woman, Enterprise and Economy quantified these three parameters, and we propose incorporating them into the economic indicators. It will be vital to disseminate these findings to contribute to the recognition by society of care work and to encourage joint responsibility in care tasks from the standpoint of gender equality.
