ACTION 11.6

To set out a Catalan forestry pact that promotes a green economy that fuses forestry protection and usage, delivering job stability to rural populations

Catalonia is brimming with forests and biodiversity and it is important to strike a balance between a twofold aim: usage and protection of forests. To date, forestry policies have been based more on protection rather than use, and the present-day challenge involves striking a balance between the two. It is necessary to strengthen the environmental role of forests, preserving their biodiversity, while at the same time fostering the establishment of local forest biomass, wood production, forestry and other industries. This forestry policy tied to each region must contribute to the development of the green economy in Catalonia and deliver job stability to rural populations. Experts, public leaders and agents from the region must contribute to the drafting of this pact, and actions must be compared with best practices from other countries.
